Activities and Athletics Descriptions

High School

Robotics

  • Students design and build their robots from the ground up and must program the robots for the autonomous part of the competition as well as user controlled portion. Students learn the fundamentals of engineering design and computer programming. Students work in groups based on age and experience. Competitions are fast, furious, and very exciting. It is a great way to get a start in engineering design.

Basketball

  • The basketball program will consist of 7th-12th graders.  Will compete locally at the JV/Varsity Level.  ISM’s basketball program is geared to teach basketball skills and drills, game situation strategy, while also focusing on growing leadership and teamwork characteristics. 

Boys/Girls Varsity and JV Soccer

  • Boys grades 7-12 at ISM and ERA.  Will compete at the JVV and Varsity Level
  • August through October, Monday-Friday, 4:00 p.m.
  • Where: Practices held at the International School of Minnesota

Boys and Girls JV/Varsity Cross Country

  • Boys and Girls grades 7-12 at Eagle Ridge Academy and the International School of Minnesota
  • August through October, Monday-Friday, 4:00 p.m.
  • Practices are held at Eagle Ridge Academy, Monday-Friday
  • Transportation: Provided to High School and Junior Varsity meets

Swim Lessons

  • The Learn-to-Swim program provides comprehensive, developmentally appropriate swimming and water safety courses that teach participants how to swim skillfully and safely, and to think and act safely in, on and around the water.
  • Grades PS-12t=

Fitness Club

  • a class designed to teach the techniques of lifting weights or using other exercise equipment.  Also geared to gain knowledge and strength in exercise design and implementation. 

Cheer Squad

  • An activity in which the participants (called cheerleaders) cheer for their team as a form of encouragement. It can range from chanting slogans to intense physical activity. It can be performed to motivate sports teams, to entertain the audience, or for competition.

Track & Field

  • International School of Minnesota will host grades 7-12 track and field in a cooperative agreement with ERA, Chesterton Academy and Groves Academy.
  • Gryphon Track & Field takes flight as we look to build the program.
  • Practice will run 4:00-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday starting March or when the MSHSL allows.
  • Practice is held at the International School of Minnesota.
  • Bus transportation to ISM is provided and to away meets.

Golf

  • Golf at ISM is designed to help student-athletes develop skills to play golf at the collegiate level while also helping introduce the game to those beginning their golf journey.

Aerospace Engineering

  • This unique program helps students find, connect, and gain insights on how to succeed in aerospace by matching them with professional members. ... Students can compete in annual design challenges that span the aerospace technical fields.

Girls Volleyball     

  • Practice 3 days a week. With a minimum of 8 matches throughout the season.  Matches will be competed at the JV and/or C level against MSHSL Competition and will be home and away on Tuesday’s or Thursday’s.

Varsity Boys/Girls Cross Country      

  • Practice 5 days a week. Co-op with Eagle Ridge Academy.  Meets will be competed at the Varsity and Junior Varsity Level.

Disc Golf   

  • Co-ed activity.  Will compete in outside competitions locally on a few Saturdays in the Fall. Teach basic and fundamental skills of Disc Golf for lifelong activity.

Badminton     

  • Co-ed activity.  Will be coached by an outside coach at Minnesota Badminton.  Will compete locally and regionally depending on skill level.  Some competitions will be internally.  Skills evaluation will be done the first week of the club. Teach basic fundamental skills of Badminton for those beginners and those advanced will be educated on skills and match play.

Math Team

  • Members are students who are at or above grade level in their high school math course & enjoy competing with other students. Math Team practices include solving & discussing math problems to prepare for competitions throughout the school year.

Fall Drama

  • Fall Drama is dedicated to bringing the joy and power of Drama to students by providing high quality dramatic programming.

Funk Rock

  • ISM's premier band. Open to high school students with significant experience on their instruments, Funk Rock's gigs include playing and touring with the Show Choir each spring.

Intro to Rock Band

  • If you have ever wanted to jam out on the drums, keyboard, guitar, or other rock instruments but never learned how, this is the group for you!

Show Choir

  • ISM’s Show Choir is a musical ensemble that combines choral singing along with choreographed dance moves often within the context of a specific idea or story.

Dance

  • In this class, your student will focus on barre work for ballet, focusing on flexibility, movement, and strength. Additionally, we will layer jazz dance on top of the ballet which is the foundation for all other dance types. We will focus on choreography for jazz and have fun music to keep your child entertained and loving every minute!  

     

 

 

Middle School

FoxJets Swim Team

  • Foxjets Swim Team is a competitive swim team member of Minnesota Swimming and USA Swimming led by top quality, full-time professional coaches.  Some basic swim instruction/knowledge is required.

Lower School – Discovery Kids

Circuit Builders

  • In the Circuit Builders Club kids from grades 1 to 5 learn by building and playing with simple circuits. Younger kids build simple circuits with batteries, light bulbs, motors, and switches. More advanced kids will put together and program a variety of robots that can interact with their environment. We also learn to code a variety of microprocessors using block based code, python, and java. We encourage play, creativity, and experimentation!

Gymnastics/Tumbling

  • ISM Gymnastics is a tumbling class for beginners.  This class will serve as a great opportunity to those students who want to learn about tumbling and gymnastics.  It is the perfect activity for a student involved in dance, cheer or any other tumbling related sport or for the student who just wants to learn about their body and have some fun along the way.
  • All students grades PS – 5th are eligible for this activity
  • Wednesday 3:45 – 4:15 p.m. (ECE PS, PK, KG)
  • Wednesday 4:15 – 4:45 p.m. (1st – 5th Grade)

Golf

  • Golf at ISM is designed to help student-athletes develop skills to play golf at the collegiate level while also helping introduce the game to those beginning their golf journey. Grades 3-12

Flag Football

  • Our class includes energetic, all-inclusive games that teach young kids the basics about playing with a group. In addition to building their football skills, this class will help kids begin learning the fundamentals of good sportsmanship, team play and individual skills.
  • All students grades 1st – 5th are eligible for this activity

FoxJets Swim Team

  • Foxjets Swim Team is a competitive swimming team – some prior basic swim instruction/knowledge is required.
  • Options for outside competitions through FoxJets
  • All students grades KG – 5th are eligible for this activity

PAC Rats

  • PAC Rats explores all aspects of putting on a show, from acting, singing, dancing, to theater production. Kids will love their experience! This class is an ongoing favorite that gives our younger performers a chance to shine!
  • All students grades 1 – 5th are eligible for this activity

Soccer

  • PreK-2 will learn the fundamental aspects of spacing, passing, defensive positioning and scoring in soccer. This fun offering will help students focus on basics while becoming more aware of soccer ettiquette. 
  • Grades 3-5 will continue to learn the important aspects of team soccer and how their individual skills can relate with in game play. Students will begin to learn and play in team games as the season progresses. 

Naute Explorers

  • PreK-5 will explore the beautiful 55 acres that ISM has to offer. They will walk the paths and explore trails that will challenge their understanding of how nature works. This fun offering gives students a deeper understanding with mother nature. 

Dance

  • This introductory dance class will teach your child the basics and beginnings of dance. They will play games where they learn how to move their bodies, learn basic ballet moves, and have fun along the way. We will use music and games that will allow our child’s imagination and creativity to flourish. We will teach proper technique and terminology so your little one could become a Prima Donna in the future!

Science Explorers 

  • Students will explore a different branch of science each week. Each meetup, explorers will learn what is studied by the chosen branch of science and participate in either an age-appropriate demo or hands on activity and arts and crafts. Some example science branches may include geology, astronomy, chemistry and biology. Some weeks we may explore more specific sciences such as paleontology(geology) and botany(biology). Some sample demonstrations/activities include identifying different minerals, creating a scaled model of the solar system, leaf rubbings, and “kitchen chemistry” demos.
